Objectives

The Urban Development program is designed to prepare students to apply principles of planning, analysis, and architecture to the development of urban areas and surrounding regions, and to work in the capacity of a professional planner. This major includes advanced coursework in principles of architecture, services, communication and transportation systems design, community and commercial development, master plan development, zoning, land use planning, applied economics, applicable laws and regulations, policy analysis, and professional responsibilities and managerial duties.

The field of Urban Planning investigates urban life styles in their physical, environmental, social, economic, and political manifestations. It explores the causes, prevalence, and consequences of urban challenges and considers the theory and practice of addressing such challenges. Its subjects range in scale from global social inequalities to local and personal ramifications of neighborhood design.

The main objective of the Bachelor of The Urban Planning program is to train engineers to:

• outline interconnections among the physical, environmental, social, economic, and political dimensions of cities and urban life;

• examine alternative approaches for solving urban problems, and to

• sketch facts and underlying commonalities of global urbanization

Employment Opportunities

Urban Planning studies can be the foundation for employment in urban or regional planning, community development, social welfare, criminal justice, environmental management, or related fields. In fact, the skills, knowledge and competencies graduates gain from the program can be employed in many different professions. In other word, graduates of this field can apply for such jobs as regional transit management, environmental impact analysis, rural economic development, infrastructure investment, nonprofit neighborhood housing development, legislative analysis, and growth management planning.
